Ordinary itself is a purely abstract concept; a human term, so it is essential that it be applicable to people.
By defining physical means of existence as ordinary, we have completed the superlative: It is, in effect,
extraordinarily ordinary. But then, if we consider the things that we have defined as ‘ordinary’ in context- how could one ever
consider the life an ‘ordinary’-in the sense of banal- occurrence? There is nothing ordinary but only extraordinary
about our existence on Earth at all.BRIEF: Define what you think the Super Ordinary might be, as a set of descriptors, ideas or definitions.
Use this definition to create an artefact that explains or embodies your personal definition of what it is
to be Super Ordinary.MY DEFINITION: What does every living thing hold in common? What is universally 'ordinary'? A few,
select essential functions our body enacts in order to keep us alive: Movement, Reproduction, Sensitivity,
Growth, Respiration and Nutrition; the ‘base’ laws of living.
Super Ordinary can either be interpreted as superlative or paradoxical. I wanted to find the crossover
between these two points. After defining the Super Ordinary as the base laws of physical existence (the school-room anachronym MRS GREN
coming in useful). I pondered ways in which I might be able to depict or embody this description in artefact form.Using real-time video as a template, I explored animation for the first time, referencing rotascoping as a technique.
Aware I would be unable to produce a 25fps movie in the time available, I cut this number down to 12fps and
encorporated some photography alongside my drawings, keeping the low-fi 'stop-motion' feel.
