The Birth Project PART ONE: Research Video Our first task was to identify a particular ritualistic aspect of the Socio-cultural institution of Birth, and make a research film about it.   The research video focuses on the frenzy of superstition and myth surrounding well-being during pregnancy and birth. We found it intriguing how the 'holistic' craze can be used to manipulate consumers into buying products and practising rituals that have absolutely no foundation of evidence. Preying on the prospective parents' sense of guilt and fear to sell ideologies that are projected as 'pure' or auspicious.
