Preformist Society
A series of drawings exploring links between guilt and feminine sexuality, culminating in a health-campaign based on the outdated theory of Preformism.
Paracelsus, a Greek philosopher was the first to offer the theory that the male was solely responsible for the creation of a baby, in that the fetus already existed, preformed within the male sperm. This theory was known as Preformism.
Using the absurd Preformist paradigm, the project brings this lost and outdated superstition into modern context, satarising the hysteria surrounding birth and infant safety used to sell modern products. It comments on how 'alternative' therapies with no scientific basis of evidence, but which rely heavily on traditionalism and fear that drive hysterical consumption in this market. It is also a comment on masojinistic attitudes still in existance today: A woman's responsibility to her own sexual morality and her role as passive incubator.
